For Chickasha High School sophomore Alivia Brumley, involvement in FFA is about more than agriculture. It is an opportunity to build confidence, develop leadership skills, meet new people and prepare for a successful future.
Brumley serves as the Chickasha FFA chapter president, a role that gives her a chance to represent her classmates and help lead the chapter through a busy year of activities. She is also involved in prepared public speaking, livestock evaluation and exhibiting livestock, allowing her to grow in a variety of areas while staying connected to an organization she enjoys.
“I joined FFA because it opens up so many different opportunities that will help me in the future,” Brumley said.
As chapter president, Brumley understands the importance of being a positive example for younger members and for others in the Chickasha community. Whether she is participating in an FFA event, attending a trip or competing in another activity, she takes pride in wearing the Chickasha name.
“Representing my school and community shows that I am proud of where I am from,” she said.
One of the biggest moments of Brumley’s FFA career came at the Tulsa State Fair, where she earned Reserve Grand Champion market barrow honors. The recognition represented the work, preparation and commitment that go into showing livestock, but it also gave Brumley a memorable accomplishment to look back on as she continues her high school career.
“The highlight of my career so far was probably when I won Reserve Grand Champion market barrow at the Tulsa State Fair,” Brumley said.
While awards are meaningful, Brumley said some of her favorite FFA memories have come from the experiences shared with fellow members. The trips, events and time spent together have helped make FFA a special part of her high school experience.
“My favorite memories in FFA are all the fun trips we get to go on,” she said.
Outside of FFA, Brumley stays active as a softball player and cheerleader. Balancing athletics, leadership and agricultural activities takes effort, but she relies on goals and motivation to keep moving forward.
“I am motivated by setting goals and working hard to achieve them,” Brumley said.
Brumley credits her agricultural education teacher, Mrs. Schmidt, with making a major impact on her life. She appreciates the time and effort Schmidt puts into helping students improve and reach their potential.
“My AG teacher Mrs. Schmidt has had the biggest impact in my life,” Brumley said. “She is always working so hard to make sure her students are the best they can be.”
With a strong work ethic, school pride and a willingness to take on new opportunities, Brumley is making the most of her time in Chickasha FFA.
