Chickasha senior Lindy Kate Butler is actively involved as a cheerleader for the high school athletic program. The number one thing she builds the foundation of her work on is based on her Lord and Saviour.
“My motivation for everything I do comes from my faith,” Butler said. “Being a light for Jesus is the single most important thing in my life.”
Besides cheering, Butler also has membership in Junior Optimist International, Volunteer Club, NHS, FCA, Chickasha’s Junior City Council, Oklahoma National Memorial Teen Board, and is a member of First Baptist Church of Chickasha.
“What balances my life is relying on God’s strength, not my own,” Butler said. “When I try to do anything myself, I fail. But when I rely on God to carry me through, He works every aspect of my life for His good.”
The biggest role models in Butler’s life are her parents. “They have taught me how to support others and lead,” she said.
Mrs. Becky Talley has been Butler’s favorite teacher throughout school. “Growing up, she was my music teacher in elementary school and is my current piano teacher. When I grow up, I want to be as iconic as she is,” she added.
Butler says that success in cheerleading is never defined by one person’s accomplishments. “Cheerleading is a team sport, not an individual sport. When someone succeeds, there is always a mountain of other people holding them up and encouraging them. My success is never from my own doing but from the support of my teammates, coaches, and family. The seven other seniors on the cheer team hold everything together. Their work ethics are outstanding, and I am so glad to share the title of senior with them!
The highlight of Butler’s cheer career, she said, was getting to cheer three out of four of my years in high school with her sister Emery, who is now a freshman at Oklahoma Baptist University. “She is my best friend, and sharing the cheer mat with her is my high school highlight,” Butler said.
Her sister is also her favorite person to follow on social media “because she is an icon,” Butler said.
