Every high school team has a rival that they look forward to competing against each season. They put in a little extra work in preparation for that game so that they can get the win. Blake Dominguez is a dual sport athlete at Chickasha High School and he says that there is one school that he always enjoys beating.
“Anadarko would have to be the team I like to beat the most,” he said. “It has been a rivalry for a really long time. The highlight of my career came against them, when I threw a touchdown my junior year.”
Blake is a senior at Chickasha and he plays football and soccer. Outside of sports, he is also a member of the Johnson-O’Malley Program.
Throughout his career, Blake has invested a lot so that he is at the top of his game when he competes. Along with that work, he has something else that helps him stay focused on his goals.
“It takes a lot of dedication, time, and hard work to be successful,” he said. “I keep myself motivated by remembering everyone who has ever doubted me.”
There have been people that have made an impact on Dominguez’s life over the years. But he has a couple that stand out.
“The biggest role models in my life are my mom and dad,” he said. “They do everything in their power for me and they work really hard. Another person would be one of my teachers, Mrs. Jantzen because she has always believed in me.”
When he steps on the field on game day wearing the Chickasha uniform, Blake says he is proud to be able to represent his school and community.
“It means a lot,” he said. “Chickasha has always had to fight for everything and it’s never been easy. So when you succeed it means even more.”
Dominguez also says that he is proud to be able to compete alongside his teammates. They all work hard and help each other get better.
“Justin Cordova is the teammate that I like to practice against the most,” he said. “He always has had a competitive nature since we were kids and he pushes me hard. The guy on the team that is the most underrated is Layton Bryan. He hurt his shoulder in our first scrimmage and was out the whole year pretty much and got to a point where he could play late in the season when most kids would’ve just sat out and made me respect him a lot more.”
