The first role model in a student athletes’ life is often an older sibling. Justin Cordova was introduced to football watching his brother play. “I started playing football when I was six years old because my older brother was playing and I wanted to be a part of it,” he said.

Playing football for Chickasha High School has taught Justin there is always room for improvement. Now a senior, his favorite part of being on a team is the bond they form. Working and improving together brings them together like a family.

The teammate leaving the biggest impression on him is Derreck Owen-Shells. “He pushed me to be better. When times got hard, and I was down he was always there to pick me up,” said Justin.

Justin is proud to represent CHS as a student athlete. He enjoys being involved in the community and acting as a role model for the younger kids. Looking back on his years playing football his favorite memory was the victory against Cache clinching a playoff spot for his team sophomore year.

His favorite teacher is coach Croslin from freshman math for believing in him always and helping him achieve his goals getting him where he is now. The professional athlete he looks up to is former NBA player Allen Iverson. “He didn’t let social normality stop him from being who he was,” said Justin.

“My mom and dad inspire me because no matter what was going on they stuck by my side. I would like to thank my family, my friends and last but not least, my parents for all the sacrifices they made for me to be where I am,” he said.

Justin’s favorite all time meal is his grandma’s chicken dumplings, and the best advice comes from his dad. He says, “to keep my composure and to never let anyone tell me I can’t do something.”
