Athlete Spotlight with Chickasha’s Lainey Jones – Presented by Sooner Nutrition

At Chickasha High School, senior Lainey Jones has become one of the most dependable and driven athletes on campus. Balancing soccer and cross country, she has built her success through consistency, hard work, and the relationships she’s formed along the way.

One of her proudest moments came during her sophomore year, an intense quarterfinal match against Fort Gibson that tested every ounce of her determination.

“The memory I’m most proud of is scoring to tie up the game in the quarterfinals against Fort Gibson,” Jones said. “That was the best I can ever remember playing.”

That moment represents more than just a goal for Jones, it’s the type of resilience and perseverance that soccer has taught her through both the highs and lows.

“Soccer has taught me the importance of consistency,” she said. “There will always be hard matches, bad practices, unfair advantages, and challenges along the way, but just keep showing up and putting in the work every day.”

Her dedication doesn’t stop on the field. Jones has found inspiration in mentors who genuinely care about their students, shaping her outlook both academically and personally.

“Mr. and Mrs. Widener are my favorite teachers,” she said. “For the last seven years, they’ve treated me with genuine kindness. Sometimes all you need is to know a person cares about you.”

Jones finds constant encouragement from the people closest to her.

“My family inspires me the most,” she said. “No matter what comes at them, they keep going and supporting each other.”

Among her teammates, one name stands out as a lasting influence.

“The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is Austin Clift,” Jones said. “Her talent and work ethic have always pushed me to compete at a different level, and the way she holds me accountable helps me grow as a player.”

Representing Chickasha is something Jones holds with pride.

“My favorite part of representing my high school is the people I have met through sports,” she said. “The coaches and players have poured into me and encouraged me when I was struggling.”

She also carries an important piece of advice that’s stayed with her through challenging times.

“One of my coaches told me that nothing is ever as bad or as good as you think,” she said. “Those words changed my life by reminding me that anything that comes at me is faceable.”

Off the field, Jones is involved in the National Honor Society, FCA, and JOI Club. When she’s not training or competing, she enjoys candy of any kind and a good Pizza Hut pizza. She dreams of traveling to Greece and, if given the chance, would choose to control time, reversing and fast-forwarding to relive moments or move past them.

“I’d love to thank my parents for everything they’ve done for me,” she said. “I’d also like to thank my coach, Justin, for constantly going out of his way to help me be successful.”

For inspiration, Jones looks up to one of soccer’s greatest icons.

“My favorite professional athlete is Cristiano Ronaldo because he recognizes how to play the game beautifully,” she said.

With graduation ahead, Jones is closing her Chickasha chapter the same way she’s always played, grateful, grounded, and giving her best effort every single day.
