Athlete Spotlight with Chickasha’s Lane Jay – Presented by Sooner Nutrition

Athletes put in a lot of work so that they can continue to grow and get better at their sport. While that is important, there are other things that are important to being a successful athlete. One of those is the people that you look up to as role models. Lane Jay has a few of these people in his life and he attributes who he is today to them.

“My dad and my brother are two people that I look up to,” he said. “They both taught me everything I know about baseball. Another would be coach Peschl. When I first moved to Chickasha, he was my coach and mentor and he taught me the right way to do things.”

Jay is a sophomore at Chickasha High School, where he is a member of the baseball and football teams. He is also taking honors classes.

Just like in athletics, it takes a lot of work to be a successful student. For Lane, working to do his best transfers to his studies too.

“I like to be as competitive in the classroom as I am on the sports field,” he said.

When he is at practice or in a game, Lane is thankful for the teammates that he is surrounded by and how well they work together.

“Everyone on our team is held to the highest expectations,” he stated. “We all hold each other accountable as family. The teammate I like working with the most in practice is Layton Bryan. He is competitive like me and we work to make each other better.”

Being able to be a representative of his school and community when he competes is something that Lane does not take lightly.
“The name on the front of my uniform is as important as the one on the back,” he said. “I strive to make my family and school proud.”

Even as a sophomore, Lane already has an idea of what he wants to do once he graduates.

“I plan to enlist and serve my country as a Marine after college,” he said proudly.
