The Chickasha Fightin’ Chicks’ baseball team had a great season last year. They ended the season with a 28-9 record and advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament. As they prepare for a new season, head coach Kevin James’ squad has a lot of familiar faces back to make another run at a championship.
Some of the top players at the plate will be seniors Layton Bryan and Lane Johnson and sophomore Lane Jay. Bryan is a four year starter and has committed to play at Cowley County. He is an outstanding athlete that will have an impact on the season. Johnson registered a .265 batting average with a home run and 22 RBIs. He has worked hard in the offseason and looks to increase those numbers this season. Jay was third on the team last year in hitting. He started every game at third base and did a great job.
On the mound this season will be junior Brody Ross, senior Nolan Myrko, and Bryan. Last season, Bryan pitched 75.2 innings and had a 9-1 record. He tallied 121 strikeouts, 18 walks, and had a 1.48 ERA. Ross is a solid pitcher that threw 52.1 innings and had 59 strikeouts and a 2.00 ERA. Myrko is a great kid that is always ready to help his team. He looks to make a bigger contribution this season.
Other members of the team that will play a role in their success this season are seniors Cooper McKinney, Jackson Fink, Casen Ledford, junior Kaiden Boswell, and sophomore Javier Nieto.
