Q&A with Chickasha’s Mykayla Shearer – Presented by DeHart Air

VYPE: How long have you played your sport, and what is your position?
Shearer: This is my sixth year playing softball and I primarily play left field.

VYPE: What first got you interested in the sport?
Shearer: I decided to try softball my sixth grade year. I ended up loving it and developing a
passion for it that stuck with me.

VYPE: In your opinion, what is the best part about playing sports in high school?
Shearer: The lessons you learn from it. It teaches you so much about how to work hard to
be your best, show up for and rely on your teammates that become your family, and face
adversity with confidence.

VYPE: What is your favorite memory competing?
Shearer: My favorite moments with my teammates are when we rally and fight to come
back from a losing score and come out on top.

VYPE: Do you have a favorite opponent to compete against? If so, why?
Shearer: My toughest opponent is myself, and I do best when I focus on myself and my
team rather than who we are facing.

VYPE: What motivates you to be your best?
Shearer: I am motivated to do my best because everything I have is from God. So, I don’t
want to squander when He’s given me and give the glory back to Him. I also know that my
teammates give their best, so how could I not give anything less for them?

VYPE: Which teammate is the class clown? Who is the leader?
Shearer: The class clown on the team is Maddie Skyta. She can always lift our moods when
we are down and remind us to have fun. Our leaders are our seniors, Aubrey Coble, Bayle
Bingham, Brook Richardson, and Kayelynn McConnell. They lead us by example, with heart,
and always have our backs through the good and the bad.

VYPE: Is there anyone you look up to as a role model, and why?
Shearer: My parents; my dad showed me how to work hard at everything and my mom
showed me how to persevere with a smile.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?
Shearer: I plan to get a degree in criminal justice.
