Second-year head coach Erin Workman had her work cut out for her when she got to Chickasha. “Unfortunately, we lost seven girls to injuries, so we are really looking forward to this season to see what all this team will accomplish,” Workman said. “They are working very hard in the offseason and have made several adjustments. The leadership throughout this team, I believe, will have a huge impact on this upcoming year. We have all but two returning starters coming back. Last year was the first year for some of our girls to get varsity experience. That experience has taken them to a new level and are working diligently not just on the physical but the mental aspect of their game.” The Chicks return five seniors: Utility Bayle Bingham, pitcher Arlynn Smith and infielders Aubrey Coble, Kayelynn McConnell, and Brook Richardson. First baseman Brooklyn Bingham (Jr.) “is a constant on this team” and will play a pivotal role on the field, in the dugout and in the clubhouse. “If the facility is open or there is an opportunity to take some ground balls, she [Bingham] is there,” Workman said. “She never has to be told to get to work! She brings not only a great work ethic — She also brings a passion for the game that is contagious. She is a great team member and always put them above herself.” Utility player Makayla Shearer (Jr.) is an exemplary student-athlete. “Makayla is a team member that is a great role model both on and off the field. She brings a work ethic that everyone looks up to and admires,” Workman said. “She fights tooth and nail to get the job done and works relentlessly to get better every day! She has a servant’s heart that is displayed every day and does not waver even when she may not be having the best day herself.” Workman will rely on the experience of players like Bingham, Shearer, and the seniors to help develop Chickasha’s young talent. “We have five incoming freshmen that bring experience, energy and competitiveness that will definitely add a spark to our lineup,” Workman said. “We are looking forward to a fun season!” Adyson Williams (Fr.) is an anticipated newcomer and is expected to play catcher. “Adyson brings a strong offensive and defensive presence to the team,” Workman said. “She has a great attitude, works hard, has great leadership qualities and will definitely help round out our team.” The Chicks open the season at Duncan on Monday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. They will play in the Dale Tournament (Sep. 5-7), the Comanche Festival (Sep. 13-14) and the Chickasha Festival (Sep. 27-28).
