Chickasha basketball player Mea Ginn recently gave an interview to VYPE.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
My goals for this year are to work on improving my weaknesses, help motivate and lead my team, and to be consistent in my game.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
I have had the most fun this year playing basketball and traveling. I love the vibe of hometown games, and playing in front of my home crowd. During the summer, I played with my club team, OK Swarm and tournaments took us to Dallas, KY, and Orlando. I love visiting different cities and had a blast with my teammates. I also participated in Yale University’s Elite Camp this summer, which gave me the opportunity to visit NYC and CT. I enjoyed seeing new places and meeting people from all over.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
One of my favorite teachers was my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Lee. She loves all kids and has a special way of teaching and connecting with her students. She was always happy, and lit up the room when she walked in. Seven years later, I still see her wearing a big smile. She makes everyone feel special.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memories?
My favorite athletic memories were my very first high school game, playing as a freshman. I was so nervous and so excited. It was a hard-fought game, but we won in overtime, making it that much more memorable. At the end of the season, I received an award for SAC Honorable Mention and CHS Newcomer of the Year. Those will always be great memories.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
My teammate Serenity Golightly has left the biggest impression on and off the court. She doesn’t shy from hard work; she’s constantly in the gym; and leads by example. She is always happy, and motivating; yet, keeps our team accountable. She is just a kind and genuinely good person.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
My favorite part of being on this team is having the opportunity to represent my school and community, along with a great group of teammates. We all sweat and work hard together, learn from one another, grow together, and are always there for each other. We also have a great coaching staff, who put in so much time and effort to help us grow. It’s a great environment, and a great team to be a part of.
VYPE: You can pick any place for Summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
I love to travel, and the Exumas, Bahamas has some of the prettiest water and beaches you can imagine. I definitely go there, and I take my cousin, Miana, with me. Growing up, our families vacationed/traveled together. No matter if we are skiing, exploring, or beaching it- we enjoy doing the same things, and always have a blast.
VYPE: If we gave you $500, and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I love Christmas, and this is my favorite time of the year. First, I would hope to spread a little joy, and go pick out a couple of toys/presents for kids to open. Next, I would go buy a couple of tickets to see Drake in concert and enjoy a fun night with friends.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
Yes, I have recently volunteered in several community service projects that I enjoyed. During the Summer, I got to plant mums downtown to help our city get ready for the Food Truck Championship, and a couple of weeks ago, I got to volunteer at the Festival of Lights, greeting people arriving at the light display. It was fun to meet and greet all the visitors from out of town.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I am a member of Life Church. Life Church is a great atmosphere for people learning and spreading the gospel; where everyone feels welcomed and loved. I am also involved in AAU basketball, and play-off season with the Oklahoma Swarm.
VYPE: Are you involved in an academic excellence clubs?
I am currently a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society, and was a former member of the National Junior Honor Society. I maintain above a 4.0 GPA, and my goal is to be named a CHS Valedictorian my Senior year.
