Chickasha softball player MyKayla Shearer told VYPE about her life.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
MS: This year, I am focusing on keeping my grades up and finishing with high A’s in all my classes. I am also hoping to keep improving my softball skills and as a new powerlifter this year, I’m looking forward to improving there as well. Any chance I get, I enjoy spending time with my horses and this year I am striving to better my horsemanship skills.
VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?
MS: The most fun I’ve had in the last year was going camping with my family this summer. It is always such a fun time and I enjoy just hanging out with them, making memories that I will never forget.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
MS: My favorite teacher was Mrs. Critchfield for Friend Junior High. Mrs. Critchfield always made class so fun and taught me life lessons that I still use today. She was more than just a teacher, she was also a friend and I knew I could count on her.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
MS: My favorite athletic memory is when my team got our first win of the season and we were so hyped up it was crazy. We had all been working very hard for a long time through many setbacks and obstacles, but we pulled through as a team.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
MS: There have been several teammates who have been very impactful to me and I couldn’t choose one, but some that automatically come to mind are three seniors from last year. Rylie Weber, Leighanne Eaton, and Allison Couch. I didn’t get to play with them very long, but I always looked up to them and continue to do so. They were amazing athletes and I still view them as role models in sports and everyday life.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
MS: My favorite part of being on the team is the sisterhood that is created on the field. I know I can count on the girls no matter what, and whatever is going on, I know we would be willing to do anything for each other. I am looking forward to playing with these ladies next season and hope these friendships we’ve built last a lifetime.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
MS: If I could go anywhere for a summer vacation, I would probably take my family and go camping in the mountains for as long as possible. I love being outdoors especially in the forested mountains and camping is like an escape from reality for me that we all need every once in a while.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
MS: If I was given $500 and I had to spend it in the next 24 hours, I would fill up my mom’s car with gas and take my family with more on a roadtrip to who knows where. We would just go with the flow and go as far as $500 would take us, enjoying the open road and each other.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
MS: Almost every week I serve on the production team at my church and I get to be a part of helping our church services livestream. I also get the chance to participate in community service projects our church does, such as community clean up days and other outreach projects. I am so grateful that I get to be a part of these small projects that make a big difference. I am also deeply involved in the youth group at my church and we recently got the amazing chance to go on a mission trip to Los Angeles where we helped with outreach ministries.
