Most see cheerleading as a way to boost the confidence of the players on the field and keep fans engaged in the game. For Kelby Ramsey, a junior at Chickasha High School, cheer is more personal.
“Cheerleading has had a big impact on my personal growth, particularly in boosting my confidence and helping me become more outgoing,” she says. Through the bonds formed with her cheer team, Kelby has grown and became a better person.
“I’ve cheered since little league days and I’ve grown to be very passionate and have a deep love for my sport,” she said. Cheer took Kelby and her team to Las Vegas for Nationals her freshman year.
Kelby has always looked up to Izzy Gonzalez since they cheered together in little league. “She’s left the biggest impression on me because she inspired me to constantly challenge myself and to believe in my abilities,” said Kelby.
She is inspired by KK Butler because of the dedication and leadership KK has for the team. Kelby says her favorite teacher is Jen Jantzen. “She has the biggest heart, she always has a smile on her face and she just makes my day better seeing her.”
Kelby looks up to cheerleader, YouTuber, and pro-wrestler Gabi Butler. “She strives to be the best she can and she works hard for what she wants,” says Kelby. Kelby is proud to be able to represent her school on the sidelines cheering for all the different sports. She could not be the cheerleader she is today without the support of her friends and family.
Wherever you are in life, Kelby wants to pass on the following advice. “No matter the outcome of a competition as long as you go out and do your best that’s all that matters.”
