Senior baseball player for Chickasha High School Braxton Givens grew up with a ball in his hand.
“Ever since I have been able to walk I have just had a ball or toy in my hand,” said Braxton. “I think baseball was just one of those activities I just never got tired of or wanted to put down so I have been playing ever since.”
For Braxton baseball is more than just a sport; some of his most cherished relationships are from baseball.
“My favorite part of baseball is the relationships I get to make with my teammates and coaches,” Braxton said. “My team is sort of like a second family to me, pushing me to do my best everyday.”
Not only has Braxton gained great friendships from baseball, but he has also gained a lot of knowledge and life lessons.
“Baseball has taught me to stay resilient and strong even through tough situations,” Braxton said.
When Braxton is put in those tough situations he can always count on his dad for his support and mentorship.
“When times get tough I turn to my dad because he is always there whenever I need help,” said Braxton.
Not only does he turn to his dad, but Braxton also has a plan for those stressful situations.
“I work on my breathing as I analyze the situation at hand,” Braxton said. “I set up a plan and go about it confidently and loosely.”
Braxton’s favorite memory from baseball was when he got to be the starting pitcher at the Bricktown Ballpark. His biggest accomplishment in baseball is being a two time Pitcher of the Year recipient.
He might have already had some big accomplishments, but Braxton has his eyes set to the future.
“My ultimate goal for baseball is to maximize my ability and take it as far as I can,” Braxton said.
When Braxton is not on the baseball field he enjoys spending time working out and relaxing around the house.
