One of the most difficult obstacles to overcome in athletics is injuries. For Chickasha senior Alli Bordwine, a standout softball player that can play just about any position, suffering an ACL tear in spring slow-pitch may have kept her off the field, but it hasn’t damped her enthusiasm or passion for the game.

Bordwine commented on the recovery process herself.

“It’s probably one of the harder things I’ve been through,” Bordwine said. “Physically, it isn’t horrible. It is frustrating at times, but I am healing and getting stronger. The mental part of recovery, however, has been truly difficult for me. It’s hard to sit on the bench and not be able to play.”

However, Bordwine has stayed strong throughout the process, thanks to her faith and the support of her friends, family, and teammates. She hopes to be able to take the field again as soon as she’s able.

While Bordwine may not be able to make an immediate impact to start the fall season this year, she’ll provide support for Chickasha one way or another. She recounted a memory from her sophomore year which displayed softball intelligence and natural instincts.

“I talked coach Whatley into letting me catch a couple innings in a JV game,” Bordwine said. “I am definitely not a catcher but I threw two girls out and I like to say that’s the highlight of my career!”

Bordwine is looking forward to her senior year and getting to spend another year with her teammates.

“This senior group has grown so much through the years and I am so blessed to be able to have played with them by my side,” Bordwine said.

Bordwine is thankful for the support she’s had along the way as well.

“Someone I consider a role model is Brighton Gilbert,” Bordwine said. “She has given me lessons since I was young. She is very encouraging and gives back to the next generation of softball players. I also consider my dear friend Haleigh Kellog to be a role model in my faith and life in general.”

After high school Bordwine will fulfill her childhood dream of playing college softball at OBU and is excited to learn from coach Maples and coach Brewers. As Bordwine returns from injury expect her to bring back her positive attitude, ability to step up in big moments, and willingness to put the team first.
