Chickasha’s Reed Wilkins – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma

For Chickasha High School sophomore Reed Wilkins, success comes from learning to balance competing demands while staying grounded in what matters most.

As a varsity basketball player for the Fightin’ Chicks and an active member of the school’s FFA chapter, Wilkins has discovered that excelling in multiple areas requires more than just talent — it demands careful prioritization and unwavering support from those around her.

On the basketball court, Wilkins plays post, a physically demanding position that requires quick decision-making in high-traffic situations. But her journey to varsity success hasn’t been solitary.

“My coaches have invested a lot of time and effort into developing my skill set and I have made a lot of progress in my time here,” Wilkins said. “My teammates have been very supportive of me. The first time I scored in a varsity game they were probably more excited than I was, and they have cheered on every success of mine since then.”

Teammate Ashlyn Smith has been particularly instrumental in Wilkins’ development, helping her understand plays and positions while celebrating each milestone.

Beyond the hardwood, Wilkins has embraced the diverse opportunities offered through FFA, participating in activities ranging from raising and showing sheep to meat judging and floral design. This year, she found particular enjoymentcreating floral arrangements in Mrs. Schmidt’s class, including centerpieces for the Chickasha Public School Foundation Gala.

“The FFA promotes a strong sense of community, and I am glad to be a part of that,” Wilkins said. “I have met many new people and enjoy the variety of activities the FFA has to offer.”

The demanding schedule of her freshman year taught Wilkins a valuable lesson about overcommitment.

“I was so involved, and I felt like no one thing was getting my full effort,” she said. “So, I have been learning to prioritize and set boundaries that protect my time and ability to give my best effort.”

Through it all, Wilkins draws inspiration from her foundation.

“I’m inspired by my faith, family, and friends because they provide support, perspective, and encouragement,” she said. “They motivate me to stay grounded, work hard, and be the best version of myself.”
